The Work
The work is to move belief when evidence warrants the move and to hold belief when evidence does not. Both moves are active. Openness for its own sake and stubborn commitment to a prior position both abandon the discipline. What this category trains is the capacity to revise on evidence and to hold on evidence, with the same diagnostic in each direction: is this move earned by the evidence, or by something else?
